Ballast
Ballast is a slab serif typeface published by XYZ Type in 2022, designed by Ben Kiel. It is one of 14 typefaces from XYZ Type in the Type.lol catalog, 2 of them slab serif.
From the foundry
Ballast's playfully punchy voice emerged when Ben Kiel compressed an Egyptienne typeface into an extra-narrow width for New York magazine. After modifying the typeface for Supermajority, Ben continued evolving Ballast's concept, exaggerating the ball terminals and carving out as much space as he possibly could to allow tight, dense typesetting.
