Martin Display

VTC Martin Display is a variable display typeface derived from the letterpress lettering of the 'I AM A MAN' placards carried during the memorial march for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in Memphis in 1968. Its letterforms come from Hamilton Wood Type's Gothic No. 6243 (1906), with additional weights drawn from other Hamilton Gothic typefaces and punctuation sourced from headlines of The Baltimore Afro-American Newspaper. It stays closest to the original protest signage, with bold uppercase and lighter lowercase, and includes variable italics.
