Jester

Jester is a 22-variation experimental typeface family created by Benjamin Dumond in March 2022 as a fork of Trickster, designed by Jean-Baptiste Morizot for Velvetyne Type Foundry in 2017. The typeface employs a seam carving algorithm—a computational technique that analyzes images to identify high and low-energy pixels, then deforms them while preserving important details. When applied repeatedly to typography, this process creates unexpected glitches and surreal letterforms. Each of the 22 variations is named after Major Arcana tarot cards: Fool, Magician, Priestess, Empress, Emperor, Hierophant, Lover, Chariot, Strength, Hermit, Fortune, Justice, Hanged Man, Death, Temperance, Devil, Tower, Star, Moon, Sun, Judgment, and World.
