Elaphus 1
Built from original drawings of an unfinished typeface by W. A. Dwiggins for (Mergenthaler) Linotype in 1947, intended as an answer to Monotype's Times New Roman but abandoned under art director C. H. Griffith in favour of licensing Times itself. The interpretation keeps the warm, organic quality of Dwiggins' intent for a lively texture; the italics reach further back to the punchcutter Robert Granjon.
