Hack
Hack is a free, open-source monospaced typeface designed specifically for source code display and text editing. Created by Christopher Simpkins and Jim Lyles, Hack is based on Bitstream Vera Sans Mono but extensively redesigned with an expanded glyph set, refined glyph shapes, and meticulous attention to metrics. The typeface features four styles: Regular, Italic, Bold, and Bold Italic, with weights of 400 for normal faces and 700 for bold variants. Hack includes over 1,500 glyphs providing excellent Unicode coverage, including extended Latin, modern Greek, and Cyrillic character sets. The design emphasizes distinct character differentiation (including unique point styles and semi-bold punctuation) and includes Powerline glyphs in the regular set. Hack v3 introduced a customizable alt-hack library of alternate glyph designs, empowering users to personalize their typeface builds.
