Klaket

Klaket is a multiscript display typeface combining Arabic and Latin scripts, inspired by classic Egyptian film posters where letters were traditionally drawn in the Ruqah style with characteristic slanted baselines. The name Klaket derives from the Arabic word for clapperboard used in filmmaking, referencing the French term 'claquet'. Designed by Toshi Omagari over five years, Klaket achieves mechanical faithfulness to Ruqah while employing unconventional stroke modulation and weight distribution. The Arabic-centric design later accommodated a complementary slab serif Latin.
