MRL Transit
MRL Transit is a display typeface by Morula Type, the personal venture of designer Valerio Monopoli, released on January 30, 2025. The design reimagines Magnetic Ink Character Recognition (MICR) fonts—originally developed for banking and financial document processing—with a retro aesthetic that blends functional origins with rounded, playful character. Rooted in the aesthetics of vintage computing from the 1970s-1990s, MRL Transit features eight distinct width variants and a complete alternative stylistic set with specular counters and exaggerated drop terminals. This reinterpretation transforms the austere technical requirements of MICR into an expressive display typeface perfect for nostalgic design, music visualization, and experimental graphics.
