MF Defrag
MF Defrag is a modular, pixelated glitch typeface system engineered in the cybernetic underworld of the 1990s mainframe aesthetic. Designed by Simon Bent at Metis, a Melbourne-based digital foundry established in 2018, this typeface prioritizes texture and visual disruption over traditional legibility. The design features characters that bleed and merge like corrupted sectors on a fragmented disk, creating an intentionally dystopian aesthetic. Variable axes called the MORPH protocols alter each module, bending them into circles, stars, and other shapes through the WARP mechanism. MF Defrag is designed not for reading but for embedding design elements, texture, and pattern into artwork, making it ideal for experimental graphics, music visualization, and digital art projects.
