Red Hat
Red Hat is a superfamily of Display, Text, and Monospace styles commissioned by Paula Scher at Pentagram for Red Hat's corporate identity. The typeface takes a fresh approach to the geometric sans genre, drawing inspiration from American classics including Tempo and Highway Gothic. The Display styles feature low contrast with tight spacing, large x-height, and open counters optimized for headlines. Text styles maintain slightly smaller x-height, narrower widths, and thinned joins for superior legibility at smaller sizes. In 2021, Light and Monospace families were added. The entire superfamily is released as open source under the SIL Open Font License, reflecting Red Hat's commitment to free software.
