Atlantic
Atlantic was created for The Atlantic magazine's comprehensive redesign. The custom typeface honors the publication's 170-year legacy while modernizing its visual identity. Drawing inspiration from the magazine's original nameplate and extensive research into the Boston Type Foundry's Scotch Modern fonts, Atlantic blends historical influences with contemporary refinements. The design features a large x-height and distinctive serifs that evoke early American typography. After the initial redesign, MCKL expanded the typeface with additional weights, widths, and italics to create a more versatile typographic system.
