Hermes Maia

Hermes Maia is a sans serif family inspired by German display typefaces of the 1920s. Originally released with Font Bureau in 1995 as FB Hermes, it moved to Matthew Butterick's independent MB Type label in 2018 and was revised as Hermes Maia. The revised version includes updated letterforms: a double-story 'a', a more conventional ampersand, and different forms for '12345'. The comprehensive family includes six weights (light, book, medium, semibold, bold, black) across three series (roman, italic, and caps) with 144 total font files. Features include real small caps with preset letterspacing recommendations, oldstyle and tabular alternate figures, and OpenType variants for professional layout and web design. Available in OTF, TTF, and WOFF2 formats, the typeface combines historical design vocabulary with contemporary production standards.
