Romie

Romie is a display serif typeface inspired by serif designs from the 1960s fashion industry and calligraphic traditions. Started in 2017 and first released in 2019 as a single weight, the typeface was significantly reworked beginning in 2022 with an expanded glyph set featuring an extensive ligature library and additional weights. The distinctive serif shapes reveal a contemporary hand, with inverted serifs on lowercase letters like 'i' and 'n' that reference the transitional period of serif type design. Italic styles were added in December 2022, followed by further expansion with Light and Black weights. As of June 2024, Romie comprises six weights plus italics, making it versatile for both text and display applications. The typeface has been featured in notable publications including Antwaun Sargent's book The New Black Vanguard: Photography between Art and Fashion.
