Kalice
Kalice is a contemporary revival of the 1880 typeface Elzévir Anglais, drawing inspiration from 19th-century workhorse romans designed by Morris Fuller Benton and Miller & Richard's Old Style. The typeface balances sturdiness with elegance through distinctive features: open counters, a large x-height, and soft blob-ended serifs suggesting ink squeeze. Notable character details include a short i and j, curved K/k/R leg, cruciform t, round g ear, and decorative cedilla. Originally released in 2018, Kalice was updated in 2023 with the addition of italic styles. The design is firm and self-assured with a clear, open color and excellent readability.
