Nysé

In the early 1900s, while the Art Nouveau movement was broadly appreciated as a symbol of modernity, the renowned Parisian type foundry Deberny & Peignot commissioned the French artist Henri Bellery-Desfontaines to create an original alphabet. The typeface was released in 1910 and became immediately popular. While being clearly distinct, Nysé shares many of the Bellery-Desfontaines' design features. The name Nysé references an exotic place in Greek mythology where Dionysus was born and raised by nymphs.
