1403 Vintage Mono was inspired by the IBM 1403 mainframe line printer from the 1960s. Printed samples were minimal, so some shapes required guesswork: Jeff Kellem started with the basic 48 glyphs used on the 1403 'A' chain, then mixed the 'A' and 'H' chains to recover further characters, including a square lozenge, and sourced more glyphs from chains modified to support Icelandic.
