BC Thomas & Ruhller
BC Thomas & Ruhller is a decorative display typeface based on a template designed in 1989 and originally hand drawn onto paper cards using ink. The typeface was created for advertising and promoting circus performances. Asymmetric serifs create suspense in the text; the oval counters of A and V are replaced with precise diagonals; the wavy X symbolizes interlocked limbs of spastic figures in elegant, artistic compositions. This novel approach to Latin typeface construction results in a variable poster typeface supported by a number of alternates via OpenType functions. It includes uppercase glyphs with diacritics, numerals, and special characters for typesetting circus posters, artistic pamphlets, theatre programs, and book covers in most Mid-European languages.
