Martin Luther
Martin Luther (1483-1546) was a German theologian and religious reformer whose writings and translations significantly influenced German typography and printing during the Renaissance. While not a type designer by profession, Luther's advocacy for vernacular German texts and his collaboration with printers like Rhau established new standards for German typeface design and readability. His translations of biblical texts created demand for distinctive German typefaces that could accommodate the linguistic needs of Reformed Protestant publishing.
