Joseph W. Phinney

American printer, type designer, and business executive (1848-1934) who began at the Dickinson Type Foundry in Boston and was instrumental in forming American Type Founders in 1892. He headed ATF's design department, overseeing typeface consolidation and purchasing Goudy's first type design.
