John Fell

John Fell (1625-1686) was an English clergyman and typographic innovator who served as Bishop of Oxford and made significant contributions to printing and type design during the Restoration period. He established the Oxford University Press as a major printing center and commissioned the cutting of several typefaces, including Greek types and decorative sorts that became influential in English printing. Fell's collection of type punches and matrices formed the foundation of Oxford's printing legacy and influenced subsequent typographic development.
