Gerrit Noordzij

Dutch type designer and typographic theorist (born 1931), one of the most influential educators in type design history. Professor at the Royal Academy of Art (KABK) in The Hague from 1960-1990, where he trained a generation of prominent type designers including Erik van Blokland, Just van Rossum, and Peter Verheul. Developed the 'Noordzij cube' theory of stroke contrast and translation. Author of 'The Stroke: Theory of Writing' (1985). Received the TDC Medal in 2013.
