Claude Garamont
French type designer, publisher, and punch-cutter (c. 1510-1561) who worked in the old-style serif tradition. He was among the first independent punchcutters, helping establish typefounding as an industry separate from printing. Many serif typefaces are collectively named Garamond in his honor.
