Christophe Plantin
French-Flemish printer, punch-cutter, and type founder (~1520-1589) who established the Plantin Press in Antwerp, one of the most important printing enterprises of the Renaissance. Created high-quality roman, italic, and oriental typefaces that set standards for European printing. Published the monumental Polyglot Bible and over 1,500 editions. His foundry became the model for subsequent printing establishments and his typefaces influenced typographic practice for centuries.
