Akira Kataoka
Type designer born in Tokyo in 1947. Trained as a lettering designer, worked as an advertising art director, then moved into font design during the shift from phototypesetting to DTP. Released iroha gothic family (2005), Maru Mincho family (2007) and Maru Maru Gothic ABC (2009); winner of the Japan Typography Annual 2010 Grand Prize among other awards.
